Synthesizer is a collection of new work from St. Louis artist Nick Schleicher exploring the process of painting, demanding that the act of creation receive as much attention as the result. The term synthesizer refers to generating electronic signals and converting them to a physical dimension. Inspired by observations usually found in social media such as Instagram, colors and gestures are extracted, digitally recomposed on an iPad and then translated to the real world. By taking something digital and throwing it out into the physical realm, Schleicher uses the act of painting to ignite a conversation about what presence is lost in witnessing the world through our devices.

Nick Schleicher is an emerging artist, born in St. Louis, MO. After receiving a B.F.A from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, he returned to St. Louis in 2012 to continue his artistic endeavors.
